That unintentionally comical presentation of Genji 2 (you know, the one from E3) has a lot to answer for. Those poor ‘Giant enemy crabs’ will be the butt of jokes for many a year to come, but I’m more concerned about Game Republic’s ability to deliver a decent game. I say that because I’ve just got round to playing the original Genji on the PS2.

And I wish I hadn’t; it’s the first game in a long time where I’ve decided to give up playing. I know it’s only a short game (said to last about 6 hours or there about), but after nearly 4 hours the repetitive, simplistic combat took its toll. The enemies were walkovers, the environments merely eye candy, the experience system flawed and the usual accompaniment of poor boss battles just added up to a tedious experience.

Yoshiki Okamoto (he of Onimusha fame), has disappointed on all accounts and after that uninspiring presentation of Genji 2 doesn’t look like he’s going to improve matters. Massive Damage you say?
