A colleague at work asked me the other day how I can still maintain such an enthusiasm for games despite working in the industry where so many others have had it drained out of them. I answered briefly, stating how they can excite, surprise and enthral like no other entertainment medium and that I’ve never for a second felt like the spark had gone. This, however, got me thinking about everyone else’s enthusiasm or lack of.

I got into the industry because I love games, and for the lack of a better reason it’s also why I like to think everyone else chose to make it their profession. Yet I find it rare to stumble on anyone who has the same passion. Yes, there are exceptions but many developers have long since lost interest in games (and I mean actually playing games).

So why haven’t I tired of videogames when others have? Why is it when I’ve spent the entire day working with games that the first thing I want to do when I get home is play games? I’m not entirely sure, but each time I buy a new game and boot it up I get the same buzz that I experienced when I played my first ever game.

Games quite simply excite me; the prospect of new ideas, new thrills, and new challenges for me never gets old. And with such a wealth of quality games out there to experience, I can’t see that changing for me anytime soon. I know there is hope for the jaded individuals within the industry who think they’ve seen it all, viewing each new game as the last wrapped up in prettier graphics, but trust me on this it’s not too late. There are many new experiences awaiting you, one of which may be the one to re-awaken that passion.

Spread the word, gaming is great.
